The Board of Trustees of Minnesota State Colleges and Universities has voted unanimously to name Devinder Malhotra to serve as the interim chancellor of Minnesota State. The action comes as the board concluded that, after an extensive search, it had not yet identified the right individual to serve as chancellor on a permanent basis. With this appointment, Malhotra will serve as interim chancellor until a permanent chancellor is named.

An ambulance donation by St. Cloud Gold Cross to the SCTCC Paramedicine program is one way students are getting real-world experience for their careers.
When the program expressed a need for an ambulance to better teach students, Gold Cross responded. Now Paramedicine students will get a taste for what to expect when starting their careers. More than half the graduates from the program are hired by Gold Cross, so the partnership helps both the ambulance service and SCTCC Paramedicine.

The St. Cloud Technical & Community College Dental Clinic is taking part in the Minnesota Dental Association’s “Give Kids a Smile” program on Saturday, Feb. 4, from 8:30-11:30 a.m.
The clinic will offer exams, x-rays, cleanings, fillings, sealants, extractions and oral hygiene instructions free of charge to children in need of dental attention. To take part in the program, please call 320-308-5919 to make an appointment.

It has been brought to our attention by another Minnesota State institution that students have been receiving a spam text message regarding loan disbursements.
The text message said, “Hello (student name), your funds will be deposited immediately after confirmation,” and a link was provided with instructions to click on it to receive immediate loan disbursement.
This link is spam and is unrelated to SCTCC’s financial aid process or student loans. DO NOT follow the link or provide any information requested from it.

The 2017 Martin Luther King Jr. Art Competition winners were announced on Monday, Jan. 23, at an awards presentation in the SCTCC Commons.
The first-place winner was “Breaking Silence” by Coda Johnson and Austin Gansman, a welded steel microphone.
In second place was Adam Speath with “Through the Times,” a mixed media portrait of Martin Luther King Jr. and former President Barack Obama.

The 2017 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Art Contest winners will be announced at an Awards Presentation on Monday, Jan. 23, at 12:30 p.m. in the Commons.
The theme for this year’s art contest was “Be Human Kind.” The first-, second-, and third-place winners will be awarded plaques. All students who submitted a work of art for the contest will receive a certificate of participation.

The Career Fair/Open House is an opportunity to explore job openings, career paths and skills in the Carpentry program at SCTCC, the featured career in the January SPARK series from Times Media.

Hudda Ibrahim, St. Cloud Technical & Community College faculty member and advisor, was named to Times Media’s “5 Under 40” list for 2017.
The "5 Under 40" awards recognize Central Minnesota leaders under the age of 40 who are involved in the community and local economy.
Ibrahim’s role as an educator and advisor at SCTCC is just the tip of the iceberg; she also founded a business, Filsan Consultant LLC, and is involved in helping Somali-Americans and other immigrants transition into the community.

St. Cloud Technical & Community College is a recipient of the gold-level award by Military Friendly in the category of Community College for 2017.
More than 1,200 post-secondary schools were designated as “Military Friendly.” Of those designated, 541 schools have been recognized for excellence in different categories: academic policies and compliance; admissions and orientation; culture and commitment; financial aid and assistance; graduation and career; and military student support and retention.
