Ron Niehus, Kenneth Horn, Julia Peter, David Macadone, and Vanesa Santana prepared for the conference on campus in the week leading up to the event. Judges for the prep were from SCTCC itself: staff members Juanita Lopez, Cindy Kantor, Kyle Shoenwald, and Shaun Keeley, and DECA President Dannilee Olson.

The team headed to Willmar, where Horn and Olson were honored with the Outstanding Student Service awards as well as met up with alumni and former SCTCC DECA member Amy Dvorak-Palmer who assisted during this year’s event.

After competition, the results were in:

  • Vanesa Santana – 1st Place Professional Sales
  • Kenneth Horn – 2nd Place Professional Sales
  • Ron Niehus – 1st Place Business to Business Marketing Team
  • Kenneth Horn – 1st Place Business to Business Marketing Team
  • David Macagnone – 3rd Place Travel and Tourism
  • Vanesa Santana – Finalist Retail Management
  • Ron Niehus – Finalist Professional Sales
  • David Macagnone – Finalist Hotel and Lodging

“Practice, practice, practice. Without that, they will never get to the next level, and this group has proven that they’re ready for it,” said Becky Shand, Marketing Sales Management instructor and DECA advisor. “Congratulations to these amazing future business leaders!”

The next stop for SCTCC’s Collegiate DECA team is Austin, TX, where they will compete at the National Conference! Congratulations, all!
