The SCTCC Sonography program earned continuing accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) in January for ten years. The Abdominal-Extended and Obstetrics & Gynecology portions of the program received separate accreditations.
“Most programs throughout the country receive an accreditation renewal of five years. Getting 10 years is something that is awarded to programs with ongoing accreditation renewals. It's earned,” explained Jeff Gunderson, Sonography instructor.
The CAAHEP evaluates annual reviews done by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, which ensures the program is in compliance with standards set by them and other organizations.
“The commission recognizes your organization’s commitment to continuous quality improvement in health professions education, as demonstrated by your participation in CAAHEP programmatic accreditation,” noted Barry Eckert, the president of CAAHEP.
