Student Learning Outcomes
Meets the requirements for MN transfer curriculum Goal Area 7B. Students will be exposed to a comprehensive introduction to the ways in which people differ - including race, gender identity, age, disability, religion, sexual orientation, and social class - and the importance of these differences for varying sports and sport(s) organizations. The course offers strategies for managing diversity and inclusion in work and sport environments. Students are also exposed to strategies for creating and sustaining diverse and inclusive sport(s) organizations. Students will combine personal experience with tools learned in this class to explore the intersection of diversity, sports and societal issues.Student Learning Outcomes
- Examine the overarching topic of diversity and inclusion.
- Articulate personal experience in sport organizations and how it relates or differs from others.
- Critically examine the dehumanizing biases and misinformation that lead to oppression experienced by various groups within and outside of sport(s) organizations.
- Evaluate forms of diversity, including race, gender, age, disability, weight, height, religion, social class, sexual orientation, and gender identity as they relate to historical and contemporary sports and/or sports organizations.
- Identify approaches to reducing bias.
- Explore strategies for diverse and inclusive sport(s) organizations.
- Research effective diverse and inclusive communities developed through sport.
