Student Learning Outcomes
Introduction to Education provides an overview of the education profession and the U.S. educational system including historical development, social foundations, and educational institutions. The course also provides an overview of the traditional education classroom and strategies to support the development of the student. This information is necessary for the development of the professional educator. Student Learning Outcomes
- Analyze the historical and philosophical foundations of education.
- Describe inequities in education and how to support those who have historically been underserved.
- Explore the leadership roles for teachers and how to advocate for students.
- Identify ways to create equitable learning environments.
- Define student rights and teacher responsibilities to equal education, and the appropriate education for students with disabilities.
- Define student rights and teacher responsibilities to confidentiality, privacy, appropriate treatment of students, and reporting in situations of known or suspected abuse or neglect.
- Describe the importance of professional conduct related to the Code of Ethics.
- Apply instructional approaches that integrate real-world learning opportunities into instruction.
- Identify ways to develop proactive approaches to behavior.
- Investigate the impact trauma can have on learning and development.
- Identify Minnesota academic content standards for students in the scope of the preservice teacher's future classroom.
- Research a strength-based approach to working with diverse children and their families.
- Identify engagement strategies for communicating with families from diverse backgrounds.
