Student Learning Outcomes
This class examines the many aspects of management of health information services. It introduces the general principles of management. Leadership theory and change management are examined. Work design and performance improvement specific to the Health Information Management (HIM) field are discussed. Human resource management concepts including position descriptions, performance standards, interview techniques, building effective teamwork, staff training and development, laws affecting organization workforce, and financial management functions of HIM profession are introduced. The steps and scope of project management are discussed. HIM strategic management processes are explored. Student Learning Outcomes
- Identify key challenges faced by organizational leaders, including managing organizational change, addressing conflicts of interest, and fostering an inclusive environment that supports cultural diversity among staff.
- Demonstrate fundamental leadership skills, including inter-professional collaboration.
- Identify core functions of human resource management, with an emphasis on compliance with relevant workplace laws and regulations.
- Develop workforce training materials for health care organizations that include evidence-based information and reference to legislation and regulations.
- Describe and apply financial management functions.
- Describe and apply the elements of project management.
- Utilize critical thinking to address challenges and opportunities, as well as resolve conflicts during difficult situations or conversations.
- Engage in continuing education and professional development.
- Conduct business and provide services in a virtual environment using advanced communication skills and time management.
