Student Learning Outcomes
This course is an option to fulfill the 2 credit Wellness Requirement for the AA Degree. Students will learn about nutritional requirements, the recommended amounts of micro and macro nutrients and healthy alternatives to typical American diet. Nutrition is part of a holistic approach to overall health. A sound working knowledge of human nutrition is essential for any student wanting to lead a healthy life, parent healthy children and contribute to careers that focus on health. Students will learn the science behind our nutritional needs and become informed consumers. This class does not include a laboratory (lab) component.Student Learning Outcomes
- Identify macro and micronutrients utilized in the human body.
- Evaluate deficiencies and excesses in a dietary analysis.
- Explain how food is marketed to increase sales.
- Evaluate nutritional sources for accuracy and bias.
- Plan the components of daily living including appropriate activity level, energy and nutrient intake related to holistic health.
- Identify obstacles to healthy eating and develop a positive relationship with food and themselves.
- Describe how food is grown, processed and manufactured and the progress of food sustainability.
- Discuss the benefits of cooking and eating with family and friends to improve the quality of meals and relationships.
