After an excellent showing at the state competition, six SCTCC students traveled to Atlanta for the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference June 24-28, where the excellence stuck around for a bit.
The competitions are different for each skill, taking place over the entire week.
Electrical student Jake Felger, Mora, placed second in Industrial Motor Control. This competition involved an interview, code test, ladder diagrams, troubleshooting, and a complete wiring project.
Medium/Heavy Truck student Nick Sakry, Sartell, placed third in Diesel Equipment Technology, which included a written test, interview, vehicle inspections, troubleshooting engines, electrical, and electronics systems, and more.
Electrical student Ian Wilson, Dassel, placed fifth in Electrical Construction Wiring. His competition involved a code test, conduit bending and a complete wiring project over three days.
Auto Body student Spencer Doran, St. Michael, placed tenth in the Collision Repair Technology competition, which included structural and non-structural repairs, plastic repairs, welding, and structural analysis.
Auto Body student Tayden Christians, St. Joseph, placed 12th in Automotive Refinishing Technology, involving refinishing skills like feathering, priming, blending, color tinting, and masking.
PSEO student Troy Pfiefer also competed in Automotive Refinishing Technology, placing 22nd.
