SCTCC instructor Brian Volkmuth and Erich Rice from SCSU shared their expertise in cybersecurity with students from St. Cloud Technical High School and Apollo High School in November.
In addition to basic concepts like network security, phishing emails, and cybersecurity principles, the students also learned about the importance of cybersecurity and future careers.
The high school students were also informed about scholarship opportunities if they pursue an education in cybersecurity, such as the Dept. of Defense Cyber Service Academy offered through the DoD and National Security Agency.
Because SCTCC and SCSU are recognized Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity, students are eligible to apply for the scholarship, which provides tuition, a stipend, books, and travel expenses to conferences.
Volkmuth and Rice also provided information about online resources and cyber competitions; taking part in these could help pave career paths and allow them to gain valuable knowledge and skills.
