Some things never lose their appeal – and the start of a new academic year is one of them. At St. Cloud Technical & Community College (SCTCC), the energy, enthusiasm, and excitement are evident the moment you step on campus as anticipation builds for the official launch of the 2025-2026 academic year. With classes beginning Monday, August 25, students, faculty, and staff are embracing a season filled with opportunity, lifelong learning, innovation, and the development of skills that pave the way to rewarding careers.
Offering more than 75 degree and certificate programs, SCTCC remains a cornerstone of higher education and workforce development in Central Minnesota. This fall, the College welcomes a diverse mix of new and returning students, many pursuing careers in high-demand fields such as healthcare, manufacturing, business, information technology, transportation, construction, and elementary education, to name just a few.
In addition to its robust career and technical education offerings, SCTCC’s Associate of Arts (AA) degree continues to be a popular choice for students seeking a broad foundation in general education. Designed to transfer seamlessly to institutions within the Minnesota State system – and beyond – the AA degree allows students to compete the first two years of a bachelor’s degree while honing communication and critical thinking skills and exploring future career paths.
Campus Life: More than Academics
College is more than coursework – it’s about connection, community, and personal growth. SCTCC is committed to creating a warm, welcoming, and engaging environment where students feel a sense of belonging. This includes offering meaningful experiences outside the classroom that foster relationships and support student success.
To kick off the academic year, SCTCC is hosting a series of vibrant and engaging events:
- Get Ready Week (August 18-22, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.): Students can explore campus, pick up books and SCTCC gear, connect with student services, finalize financial aid, and meet fellow students, faculty, and staff.
- Cyclone Alley (August 27, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.): A lively welcome-back celebration outside Door 1 featuring games, free food, music, giveaways, and resources to help students start the year strong.
- Spirit Night (August 27, 6:30 p.m.): Join the Cyclones Volleyball team at Whitney Senior Center as they take on Central Lakes College Raiders. Students, families, faculty, staff, and community members are invited to cheer on the home team.
- Grill & Chill (September 3, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.): A free barbecue and social gathering outside Door 1, designed to connect students with community resources while enjoying music, free food, and camaraderie.
Campus Enhancements and New Programs
This year, SCTCC unveils exciting updates to its facilities and academic offerings. A newly installed College Timeline visually chronicles SCTCC’s journey – from its beginnings at Tech High School in 1948 to its transformation into a comprehensive community college in 2010 to the opening of the Advanced Manufacturing Center in 2023. The refreshed Commons area introduces a vibrant new vibe, fostering collaboration and gathering space for all campus members.
SCTCC also continues to invest in cutting-edge technology and learning environments. This includes the new lab space that houses the Advanced Manufacturing Center and the Aircraft Maintenance Technician Program that is in development and slated to host the first student cohort in the fall of 2026. These investments reflect the College’s commitment to aligning education with industry needs and preparing students for emerging career opportunities.
Support services remain a priority with expanded access to academic support through a generous matching gift from the J.A. Wedum Foundation, technology investments for student success and advising, and dedicated support for tutoring, mental health resources, accessibility services, and career counseling – all designed to help students thrive.
Looking Forward
While the excitement of a new academic year never fades, SCTCC continues to evolve, enhancing programs, facilities, and support systems to meet the changing needs of students and the workforce. The College remains dedicated to providing equitable access to education and empowering all students to participate fully in society, the economy, and democracy.
Welcome back, SCTCC students. Here’s to a year of growth, connection, learning, and success!
