This year’s Welding class is competition-free, but Jasslyn Dahlberg is ready to “blow them outta the water.”
The homeschooled PSEO student had visited SCTCC Welding during a Discovery Day; her mom wanted her to explore new opportunities for her future career.
“I found out that I really liked it, and they invited me to come shadow the class,” said Dahlberg. “There’s a lot of opportunities with welding. There’s certain jobs you can get that you can make a lot of money with it. It’s really good for me.”
While she’s not in the industry yet, she’s had a good experience with welding so far. In a class that’s usually male-dominated, this year there are six women, and Dahlberg has even noticed it elsewhere: “I think a lot of women are starting to weld.”
Dahlberg was on her way to Welding when she stopped to chat, and as she was gathering up her backpack, her last words of advice were about PSEO specifically.
“I definitely recommend this, guys. Free college. You’re getting it out of the way, even if you don’t think you’re that smart. Ten out of ten, recommend. Great campus.”
The competition won’t know what hit them.
