Student Learning Outcomes
An introduction to cardiovascular anatomy and physiology, including hemodynamics and spatial relationships of the normal adult heart. This class will prepare the beginning cardiac sonographer in the methods of collecting normal imaging views, data calculations, and measurements. The focus of this course when performing an echocardiogram includes special attention to machine instrumentation, image quality, and protocol. Scanning techniques are correlated and taught in laboratory sessions.Student Learning Outcomes
- Illustrate aspects of patient care pertaining to sonography.
- Illustrate proper machine instrumentation, transducer care, and maintenance.
- Practice infection control.
- Demonstrate scanning techniques using standard protocol guidelines.
- Recognize proper scanning ergonomics.
- Identify normal cardiac structures and functions in the normal heart.
- Perform cardiovascular ultrasound scans on volunteer patients following set protocols.
- Produce Doppler spectral waveforms and M-mode images of the adult heart.
- Generate patient history, measurements, and comments on a sonographer report.
- Interpret various pathologies through case study presentation.
