Student Learning Outcomes
This is course is designed as a continuation of Basic Wiring & Materials I. Students will find themselves working in teams to complete between 30-40 different labs. Some of the projects are designed as introductory, others build on initial concepts and become more complex. Skills that are evaluated tend to be hands on or the ability to work with the tools & electrical material. Students will review NM cable wiring techniques, as well as other wiring methods. Basic EMT conduit bending & calculations are introduced in this class, as well as PVC, RMC & IMC conduit types. Successful students learn the ability to focus on a project & demonstrate the ability to stay on task.Student Learning OutcomesA student successfully completing this course will:
- Examine safety requirements of the National Electrical Code & NFPA 70E
- Create circuit calculations and layout with multiple switching & receptacle devices
- Write service calculations
- Build an overhead service
- Compile data from the National Electrical Code and apply it to practical wiring projects
- Model professional Integrity
- Perform conduit bends & calculation to an accuracy of 1/8
- Install GFCI & AFCI equipment into circuits, and test them for accuracy.
- Build circuits with alternative wiring methods (RMC, IMC, & PVC)
- Calculate conduit fill
- Install a row of recess lighting within 1/8 accuracy
- Explain the difference between types of recess lighting, trims & bulbs.
- Demonstrate professionalism and team performance attributes.
- Provide evidence of their ability to focus on wiring projects and to stay on task.
