Student Learning Outcomes

Students learn the functionality of hardware components and suggested best practices in maintenance and safety issues. Students will learn to diagnose, troubleshoot, and maintain desktop and server computer components and computer technology fundamentals, such as Personal Computer (PC) installation, configuration, mobile devices, networking, safety procedures, and prohibited content. Topics include hardware compatibility, system architecture, memory, storage, expansion devices, peripherals, customer service, safety, and preventative maintenance. This course will help students prepare for careers such as Computer Support Specialist, PC Repair Technician, Network Administrator, Network Engineer, Systems Analyst, and Systems Engineer. This course addresses many of the objectives of the CompTIA A+ Essentials (220-901) Certification Exam and prepares students for the first of two exams required for the A+ certification.Student Learning Outcomes
  • Explain computer components, importance, purpose, and properties.
  • Configure appropriate media storage devices.
  • Troubleshoot common problems related to motherboards, Random Access Memory (RAM), Central Processing Unit (CPU), and power with appropriate tools based on a given scenario.
  • Troubleshoot and repair common mobile device issues while following appropriate procedures.
  • Summarize topical information and explain its importance in the technology field.
