Students MUST be a Current Student (applied and accepted to SCTCC).
Students can apply with prerequisites in progress, MUST be complete prior to the start of the program. Priority will be given to students with all prerequisites complete at the time of application.
Each prerequisite and General Education course may be taken 3 times.
Consult with an advisor about the impact of repeated courses.
The Dental Assistant program is a 4-semester program that begins each Fall Semester.
30 students are accepted each fall semester.
The Dental Assistant program is a full-time program only.

- Monday: lecture from 9am-noon, lab from 1-4 p.m. Tuesday: 1-4 pm, Thursday; 1-4 p.m
First year classes (semester 2 – spring semester)

Tuesday lab 8am-noon, lecture from 1pm-3pm , Wednesday lab 8-noon, lecture 1-3pm, Thursday lab from 8am-Noon, lecture 1-3pm.

Friday lab either 8am-10am, 10am-Noon or Noon-2pm
Second year classes (semester 3 – fall semester)
- Tuesday: lab 8am-noon, lecture 1-3pm, Wednesday: lab 8am-noon, lecture 1-3pm, Wednesday; lab 8am-noon, lecture 1-3pm (no classes Monday or Friday).
Second year classes (semester 4 – spring semester)
- First Month (January) Monday; 8am-3pm, Tuesday; 1-3 pm, Wednesday; 1-3pm, Thursday 1-3pm, (February) internships Monday-Friday according to dental office schedule, Friday; 9am-noon on occasional Fridays.
The SCTCC dental assistant program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association.
Our graduates are eligible to take the Dental Assisting National Board Certification examination as well as the Minnesota Jurisprudence examination.
Over the past several years, SCTCC dental assistant students have scored above the national and state average on both of exams. After successful completion their exams, students earn the necessary credentials to succeed in the workforce the Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) and Licensed Dental Assistant (LDA).
