SCTCC instructor Dr. Sangeeta Jha was honored with the MLK Community Celebration 2023 Humanitarian Award on Monday, Jan. 16.
Jha was recognized for outstanding community contributions and service for embodying and advancing the work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The qualifications for the award were: unrecognized impact/unrecognized champions; innovative service and community healing; community outreach; and local focus.
Jha teaches sociology, anthropology, gerontology, and women’s studies at SCTCC and serves on various college committees. She is licensed Qualified Administrator of Intercultural Development Inventory and is trained to facilitate cultural competence/proficiency and antiracism workshops.
In addition to her work at SCTCC, she is involved in many community committes and initiatives, including Create CommUNITY (President & Co-Chair), Conversation on Race (Co-Chair & member), Diversity Council of Chamber (Vice-Chair & Chair), and several more.
“I am always inspired by Dr. Jha and her service to our college and community,” said Interim President Kloos. “It is such an honor to know and to work collaboratively with Dr. Jha and I’m so incredibly proud of her and her tremendous contributions to SCTCC and our community.”
