As we continue with the important work of Strategic Planning, we would like to highlight some members of the Strategic Planning Committee, who make strategic planning possible!
Why did you choose to serve on the Strategic Planning Committee?
To be a member of this committee researching best practices, discussing goals with the greater community and meeting with our fellow staff and faculty to shape our colleges Mission, Vision and Goals is an honor and privilege. Together we are shaping the experience our students and community will have with SCTCC for years to come. This process also further defines how faculty and staff can best serve our students and continue their personal growth as we grow together as a college community.
What has been one of your most rewarding experiences serving on the Strategic Planning Committee?
The overall experience of meeting with fellow committee members from across the college and seeing a common theme of ‘student success’ run through all conversations and shape our mission, vision and goals has been priceless!
What are some visions you have for our college that you would like to see come out of Strategic Planning Work?
I envision a First Year Experience course(s) that will provide students with fundamental college and self-exploration opportunities: explore their interests and strengths for potential careers, better understand the college system and importance of using resources at SCTCC and further develop study, notetaking skills to improve their resiliency. When students begin to understand themselves AND the ‘why’ of our staff/faculty helping actions they become empowered on their pathway.
Experiential learning takes student learning to a whole new level. There are many benefits to the student, college and community when we create opportunities for students to apply their learning to a real-life situation (in classroom or at a company site). When we make a positive contribution to our community we feel we truly belong. When we give back we find ourselves motivated and inspired. We want our students building relationships within the community so they will stay and share their many talents locally.
