2017 MLK art in display case

The 2017 Martin Luther King Jr. Art Competition winners were announced on Monday, Jan. 23, at an awards presentation in the SCTCC Commons.

The first-place winner was “Breaking Silence” by Coda Johnson and Austin Gansman, a welded steel microphone.

In second place was Adam Speath with “Through the Times,” a mixed media portrait of Martin Luther King Jr. and former President Barack Obama.

There was a tie for third place: Mahmoudou Sandwidi’s acrylic on canvas portrait, “Nelson Mandela” and Jessi Ewald’s digital photographs on the subject of sexual violence, “Speak Up.”

The other participants include: Jake Welle with “We Cannot Walk Alone;” Janel Helms with “Lost Hope;” Ben Totzke with “Dr. King;” Crystal Giffen with “Untitled;” and Rebecca Boedigheimer with “Hope is in the Hands of the Beholder.”

The artwork will be on display this week in the hallway with the 300 classrooms.
