SCTCC’s CTL will launch its Spring Semester Book Clubs this week and in preparation, we are discussing the benefits of participating in professional learning book clubs in this week’s blog! We have two great options for books this semester.
Being Heumann by Judy Heumann – Open to faculty and staff!
Small Teaching Online by Flower Darby with James M. Lang – Open to faculty!
Not sure if participating in a book club is right for you? Read on to see some of the benefits of joining a book club this semester.
Add to your professional learning plan. Supervisors will soon be asking many of us to develop our PD plans. If you’re looking for something to beef up your plan, a book club could be just the thing.
Meet new people. Many of us continue to feel isolated during this new Covid surge. It’s hard to find time to connect with others, especially in the busy day-to-day of our work. But signing up for a book club ensures you will have some time each month to dedicate to connecting with colleagues. This is a great way to bounce ideas off of each other, grapple with difficult concepts, and get a chance to talk to colleagues you don’t normally come in contact with.
Learn something new. Professional learning books are a great way to learn something new. These books have tips you can use in your classrooms or your offices that are supported by research.
Get a free book. All participants receive a free book upon signing up for the book club.
Spring semester book clubs will be kicking off on Monday 1/31 with a brief informational meeting. Come to learn about the book club options for this semester and get signed up to receive your free copy.
