The Cyclones Baseball team traveled to Greeneville, Tenn., for the NJCAA DIII World Series and landed in fifth place.
The first team the Cyclones played was number-two seeded Rowan Gloucester, playing a day late due to a rain delay. The Cyclones started out fast but Rowan Gloucester moved forward in the winners’ bracket and the Cyclones in the losers' bracket with a final score of 9-4.
SCTCC was still in the running as part of the double-elimination series, playing later that day against Northern Essex. The Clones started out strong with three runs in the second inning and grabbing another 9 throughout the rest of the game, with a final score of 12-7 to move forward.
Still in the game, the Cyclones played Monday, May 28, against Rockingham in a close game, but the Cyclones couldn’t come back from Rockingham’s six runs in the sixth inning. Final score for the Cyclones’ last game of this season was 7-6.
The Cyclones finished fifth in the 2018 World Series.
After a snowy start, the Cyclones’ season ended 20-9 overall and 8-1 in conference. They snagged the NJCAA Region XIII and MCAC titles, beating out three nationally ranked Minnesota teams.
