Part-time jobs or internships don’t typically fund an extravagant lifestyle, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have any fun. Here are ten ways to have fun this summer without breaking the bank:

  1. Volunteer
Look for fun ways you can give back to your community through volunteering. Volunteering is a great way to learn new things, and maybe even make some new friends along the way.
  2. Go to The Beach
The beach is a classic summer activity, and most public beaches are free! Kick back and relax with your toes in the sand, but don’t forget to pack your sunscreen!
  3. Go on An Outdoor Adventure
There are tons of outdoor adventures in the St. Cloud area including hiking, gardens, parks, and more. Most of these activities are low-cost or free, and they’re all great ways to get some fresh air and exercise.
  4. Go to Garage Sales & Thrift Shops
During summertime in Minnesota, you may see a garage sale at every corner, but if you don’t find any of those, thrift shops are a great option too! You may find unique treasures, or you could have fun putting together silly outfits with friends, all at a low cost!
  5. Check Out Your Local Farmers’ Markets
If thrift shops and garage sales spiked your interests, you might enjoy the farmers’ market. Farmers’ markets have more than just fruit and veggies - they also have pottery, baked goods, and more. You never know what unique treasure you might find!
  6. Start a Book Club with Your Friends
Reading a good book is fun, but what could be more fun is sharing that experience with friends. Books can be found for under $20 in most places, and your local library is also a great resource to borrow them for free. SCTCC's Library is in the Heartland Building, and you can check out books using your student ID.
  7. Host a Picnic
A picnic can be a great way to bond with your friends. You could picnic in the park, or even in your backyard. Pull out a blanket and have everyone bring their favorite snack. You get to spend time outdoors and learn about your friends!
  8. Check Out Your Student Discounts on Streaming Services
Summer is a time when a lot of exciting new tv shows and movies come out. Most of the streaming services out there offer great student discounts, so you can watch them all with your summer free time without spending too much!
  9. Dust Off Your Old Board Games
If it’s a rainy day and you just want to stay in, board games are a great way to pass the time. There are so many ways you can have fun with board games, especially when you’re with your friends.
  10.  Take Some Cool Photos
Taking photos is a good way to simply sharpen your photography skills, or you could even set up a fun photo shoot with friends. Be creative, and make your summer as memorable as possible!

Have fun this summer, but don’t forget to prepare for your fall semester! The fall semester starts on August 22nd!
