On Nov. 9, Surgical Technology students had the opportunity to attend a Student Education Day at the CentraCare St. Cloud Hospital as part of their Operating Room Techniques Lab class.
Surgical Technologists and OR Nurses at CentraCare provided the students with hands-on instrumentation experiences with cystoscopes, drills, plates and screw for repairing bone fractures, robotics, laparoscopes and retraction systems. In addition to getting to handle instruments and equipment, the students were able to view specialty equipment like surgical microscopes, fluoroscopes, the DaVinci and Mako surgical robots, and much more.
While there, the group was given a tour of the OR department to see how the teams work together, what different OR suites look like for different types of surgery, and their extensive Sterile Processing department.
This was an informative and exciting day for the Surgical Technology students as they get closer to starting their clinical rotations in the OR in January 2023.
Special thanks to ST Lab Assistant, Heather Donabauer for facilitating the event. The program and CentraCare plan to make it an annual event!
