Main Mission: Art & Music Discovery
Find something that speaks to you, maybe something you don’t know - or choose an art piece you know and want to explore further. Choose either:
- A piece of music, or
- A work of art
Find:
- Creator information
- Historical context
- A review or critique
- Another source interpreting the work
Compare how two sources describe it.
Side Quest
Create a bookmark, playlist, sketch, collage, or other small creative response inspired by your discovery.

🏆 Creative Explorer
You already know about bad information.
You see this every day, all over social media, in the things you hear people say, and other things you read.
Knowing the difference between truth and foolishness is a vital skill that every person needs to be using every day. And the library is here to help you to build your skills and your confidence in finding and using the best information!
We want you to get comfortable looking at different kinds of information, and sharing what you have discovered. We want to encourage your independent exploration of both physical and digital library resources. Each week in the library this semester, we will host a mission for you to explore, with an optional side quest. You will learn about materials and ideas in topics across the Library of Congress classification system - the way that librarians sort out all the information in the universe of all possible knowledge. (You didn’t think we just randomly threw things onto a shelf, did you?) Grab a Library Passport.
Each week we have a new Main Mission you can do, to explore an area of information. There is an optional Side Quest each week, to keep exploring the topics. When you are done for the week, bring your results to Mary Jordan (Librarian) or Elizabeth Norgren (Library Technician), in person or email it to us. If it all looks correct, we’ll give your Passport a stamp, and issue your badge. Side quests get a separate stamp.
