Delay in FAFSA

grad cap, money, and paying for college text

The US Department of Education announced that availability of student Free Application for Federal Student Aid – FAFSA – data will be delayed until March 2024.

This has raised concerns from students about whether financial aid packages will be available in time to meet application and admission deadlines.

SCTCC does not have decision dates by which students need to accept their offer of admission, so there are no deadlines for us to adjust in order to accommodate this delay. Financial Services is prepared to process FAFSA data as soon as it becomes available. Students will be able to enroll for Fall Semester 2024 with full information about their financial aid award.

To be prepared for the Fall Semester, students can still take action NOW:

  • Complete the FAFSA & get their taxes prepared. It is important to complete the application now to find out what your Student Aid Index (SAI) is and limit possible delays when we are able to calculate your financial aid eligibility.
  • Visit the NetPrice Calculator to see an estimate of how much financial aid you might qualify for at SCTCC. The more information you enter into the calculator, the more accurate your estimate will be.
  • Questions? Financial Services is here to help and they are going through this process with you. Email financialaid@sctcc.edu or call 320-308-5961.

The delay will only affect the timing of award notifications, not the amount of financial aid students receive.
