The second-year Dental Hygiene students teamed up to bring dental care to 150 kids at the TeamSmile event at US Bank Stadium on Oct. 15.
Minnesota Vikings players were on site to moral support to the kids during the exams, and SCTCC students were able to get a few pics with players as well.
Along with their instructors, the SCTCC team provided 46 sealants, 130 cleanings/fluorides, and shared dental education about proper oral care and hygiene to many kids from the community.
"The huge access-to-care problem we talk about in class – this was the first time it felt like I could put a number to it,” said student Abby. “I really enjoyed interacting with all the kids. They were all having fun and enjoying their day. [It was a] super rewarding feeling."
TeamSmile is a nationwide advocacy group that partners oral health professionals with pro athletic organizations to provide dental care to underserved youth. The memorable experiences provide free oral health education, screening, and treatment.
