SCTCC Land Surveying/Civil Engineering students got to experience professional camaraderie at this year’s Minnesota Society of Professional Surveyors (MSPS), and some even walked away with scholarships from the organization.
The MSPS’ annual meeting was held in Bemidji and 20 students attended over the three-day conference. Over the three days, they were able to network, learn about emerging technologies, continuing education, and more.
Additionally, MSPS offered a session for emerging professionals for young people to ask questions of the industry’s leading professionals about tough items that may come up.
“As a student, opportunities like this (especially when they're free!) are invaluable - not just to gain industry knowledge, but also for building relationships that are crucial for growth in this field,” said Silas Dinger, LSCE student. “There were many exhibits over the three-day conference, but I took the most notes during the Emerging Professionals panel. To hear people share their experiences on the path to licensure and be fully open to any and all questions was very beneficial.”
They were also invited to a sit-down breakfast with professionals to network since the industry is fairly small. More than half the licensed surveyors in Minnesota attended the conference with the remaining attendees comprised of real estate attorneys, engineers, and survey technicians.
Nine SCTCC students received an MSPS scholarship of the 24 available – a good representation!
