Student Learning Outcomes
This comprehensive course is designed for students to develop a thorough understanding of the components, operating procedures, and inspection requirements for various aircraft navigation and communications systems. Very High Frequency / Ultra-High Frequency (VHF/UHF), Distance Measuring Equipment (DME), autopilot glideslope, and localizer systems will be covered along with installation, removal, and troubleshooting concepts.Student Learning Outcomes
- Make a list of required placards for communication and navigation avionic equipment.
- Locate and explain autopilot inspection procedures.
- List autopilot major components.
- Locate and identify navigation and communication antennas.
- Check VHF communications for operation.
- Inspect a coaxial cable installation for security.
- Check an emergency locator transmitter for operation.
- Inspect ELT batteries for expiration date and locate proper testing procedures.
- Inspect electronic equipment mounting base for security and condition.
- Inspect electronic equipment shock mount bonding jumpers for resistance.
- Inspect static discharge wicks for security and resistance.
- Inspect a radio installation for security.
- Locate and explain the installation procedures for antennas including mounting and coaxial connections.
