This composition course emphasizes foundational principles of writing, including focus, development, organization, clarity, unity, and coherence in paragraphs and brief essays. Students will practice how to generate documents that are understandable for audiences, including how to identify and correct common errors. Emphasis will be placed on increasing written fluency and responding to texts. By the end of the semester, students will have written 4500 words of revised work. This is a college readiness course and does not fulfill college writing requirements.Student Learning Outcomes

• Write unified, coherent and well developed short essays including but not limited to description, narration, exposition and persuasion.
• Develop controlling ideas with specific and relevant examples and details.
• Organize ideas, anticipating audience expectation.
• Apply editing control as a result of peer and instructor feedback.
• Demonstrate general digital literacy appropriate for college courses using Word files and online learning platforms like D2L Brightspace.
• Select appropriate topics for academic/professional writing.
• Identify characteristics of diverse audiences.
• Respond effectively to various published sources.
