The Adult Echocardiography program welcomes 12 students each fall semester. Because this program is highly competitive, plan to connect with your advisor each semester to prepare for the program application process.

Open application period

For Fall 2026, the Adult Echocardiography program open application period is Open Until Filled.

The Adult Echocardiography program uses a selective process and there is no wait list for this program. Completing the prerequisite courses does not guarantee acceptance into the program.

If you are not an admitted and registered student at SCTCC, apply to SCTCC as a Pre-Adult Echocardiography student and submit official transcripts prior to completing the Adult Echocardiography application.

Gain acceptance to the college in the “AS/Pre-Adult Echocardiography” major

  • Apply online
  • There is no application fee to apply to SCTCC.
  • Submit high school transcript
    • Required if graduated high school 5 or fewer years ago
    • If the language of record is not English, a certified translation must be included with the official transcript
  • Submit official college transcript from ALL colleges previously attended
    • If the language or record is not English, a certified course-by-course evaluation that includes GPA and course levels must be provided
  • Submit Accuplacer, ACT, SAT, or MCA test scores
    • Or schedule a time to take the Accuplacer exam at SCTCC or a location near you

The Adult Echocardiography Program is a full-time, 4-semester program.

  • Adult Echocardiography program begins each fall semester.
  • 12 students are accepted each fall semester.
  • It is a competitive program that requires a 2-application process.

Program requirements

The Adult Echocardiography program is highly competitive. The college will not be able to accept all applicants that meet the minimum admission standards.

  • Complete pre-requisites 
  • A minimum grade of “C” or better AND a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above in pre-requisite coursework is required to be considered for admission and must be maintained in the program.
  • ALL pre-requisites MUST be complete before applying to the program.
  • When applying to the program, applicants must be in Good Academic Standing at SCTCC
    • Not on warning or probation - cumulative GPA 2.0 & cumulative completion rate of 66.67%
  • Re-take Options: Pre-requisites may be taken 3 times (effective December 2022).
    • Consult with an advisor about the impact of repeated courses
  • Program application dates and periods may vary and/or be extended. Priority is given to those who apply during the first application period. Stay up to date by checking this page frequently.

NOT required, but highly recommended to improve Adult Echocardiography program acceptance

  • Complete Nurse Assistant course (Options):
    • HLTH 1402 (3 credits) OR HCCC 1415, 1425 and 1480 (6 credits)
      • or provide 75-hour Nurse Assistant certificate
    • Earn a health degree, AA, HSBF - AS or Bachelor degree

Adult Echocardiography Program Application

  • Submit the Adult Echocardiography Program application and supporting documents during the program open application period. Supporting documents should be mailed following the instructions provided on the Apply Online link (available during the program open application period.)
  • Qualified applicants will be invited to take the USA Assessment exam at SCTCC. Students who have completed all program requirements and scored a minimum required GPA of 3.0 will be eligible. Directions are included in the invitation sent via email. The Adult Echocardiography program is in the process of evaluating what assessment(s) will be used in the selection process. The estimated cost should not exceed $75.
  • Applicants will be ranked using the Adult Echocardiography Program Point System.
  • Non-accepted applicants are encouraged to reapply during the next program application period after reviewing ways to gain more points on the Point System.

USA Assessment Exam FAQs

  • Must be a current SCTCC student to apply to the program
  • The Adult Echocardiography application is open December 1st through January 15th
    • Dates are estimated and subject to change. Review Adult Echocardiography page for updates.
  • Adult Echocardiography program application coming soon
  • Qualified applicants will be invited and take the USA Assessment Exam
    • Qualified applicants will be notified to register for the exam(s) OR provide previous scores to the college (taken with the past 2 years).
    • Exam(s) is offered mid-March (effective for Fall 2024 acceptance)
    • USA Assessment Exam may be taken only once per application period, with a maximum of two attempts total
  • 10 weeks after application period closes:
    • Accepted applicants will have letters sent
      • Top 12 ranking students
    • Alternate List applicants will be notified of their status
    • Non-accepted applicants are notified & encouraged to meet with an advisor to discuss:
      • ways to improve your application before reapplying to the program
      • your educational options / course selection for next semester
      • other programs and opportunities at SCTCC

Students admitted to the Adult Echocardiography program

  • Applicants will be notified of the date and time for the mandatory Adult Echocardiography student orientation, usually held in May.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) will be discussed more at orientation.
  • Applicants will be required to take and pass a MN Criminal Background study, electronic fingerprinting, AND drug testing (paid for by the student).

Applicants placed on the Alternate List for the Adult Echocardiography program

  • Applicants who meet the requirements but were not admitted because the program was full will be placed on a ranked alternate list.
  • Applicants placed on this list will be eligible for admission to the program if spaces open prior to the beginning of the fall semester.

ALL applicants who wish to gain admission to the Adult Echocardiography Program in the future must reapply, including those who were on the previous year’s alternate list.
