Students will learn ultrasound scanning procedures specialized to the heart and will be prepared to enter a health care field that is projected to grow 13% from 2024-2034 nationwide. SCTCC's program has small class sizes and is located in the same lab as its accredited and number-one ranked Sonography program.
Echocardiography is a good option for those who are interested in Sonography, and vice versa.

From Degree to Career
When you choose the Adult Echocardiography program at SCTCC, you will gain skills that will directly transfer to the workplace. There are several employers in the St. Cloud area that are ready to hire echocardiologists.
With this specialized concentration, you will gain complete knowledge of the human heart anatomy and ability to perform an exam to interpret normal and abnormal anatomy by using sound waves. During your time as a student, you will complete academic study alongside lab time and clinical experiences in the surrounding communities. With this degree, you will be able to evaluate heart anatomy, sizes, valve motions, and the proximal great vessels in order to translate findings to a reading physician, providing patients with quality care.

- Identify anatomy, anatomic variants, and sonographic appearances of normal cardiac structures.
- Demonstrate knowledge of mechanisms of disease, cardiovascular pathophysiology, and hemodynamics, sonographic technique, measurements, quantitative principles, and Doppler patterns in both the normal heart and with cardiac disease.
- Obtain, review, and integrate pertinent patient history and supporting clinical data to facilitate optimal diagnostic results.
- Translate all findings to an interpreting physician.
- To prepare competent entry-level general sonographers in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains for adult heart sonography.
