Why Choose This Program

At SCTCC, we ensure every student can choose their area of study so they can follow the path right for them. Our students can choose to focus on early childhood studies, special education, or elementary education.

If a student is interested in Early Childhood Education, our classes will prepare them for work in various human services positions. Our curriculum focuses on human development, behavior management, inclusive learning environment, curriculum planning, and learning strategies. For an accelerated option, check out our Early Childhood Education Certificate.

The Early Childhood Education Certificate is available online and on campus. Learn more about Online classes and programs

Students interested in teaching in elementary schools, kindergarten through sixth grade, can choose to focus on Elementary Education Foundations. In the SCTCC program, we provide our students with their teaching foundations. After graduation, students can seamlessly transfer to any of the seven universities in the Minnesota State system that have an elementary education bachelor’s degree.

Students at SCTCC also have the opportunity to focus on Special Education. Students interested in this career path would work with children with disabilities and work closely with parents, specialists, and administrators to promote inclusiveness for every child. At SCTCC, students in the Special Education program will learn the preparation skills needed before transferring to any of the seven universities in the Minnesota State system that have a special education bachelor’s degree.

SCTCC students in the Education program have the opportunity to be placed in an internship. Students are required to complete and submit a MN Department of Human Service (DHS) Background Study form before starting their internship. If you have been arrested, charged, or convicted of any criminal offense, you should investigate the impact that the arrest, charge, or conviction may have on your chances of employment in the field you intend to study, or on your ability to obtain federal, state, and other higher education financial aid.
