The St. Cloud Technical & Community College Cyclones Baseball Team is on its way to the NJCAA Division III World Series, held May 28-June 2 in Greeneville, TN.
After two weekends of Region XIII playoff, the Cyclones secured their place in the World Series, besting Rochester in two of three games over the two weeks.
On Friday, May 13, the Cyclones beat Itasca in 5 innings, 15-4, then moved to play Rochester on Saturday May, with a loss of 0-6. Later that Saturday, the Cyclones took on Itasca again, winning 1-0.
The Super Regional was the following weekend, bringing together four qualifying teams. The Cyclones rallied on Thursday, May 19, with a win over Central Lakes of 2-0, setting up for a pair of wins against Rochester: Friday May 20, 12-4, and Saturday, May 21, 14-11.
Drew Beier nabbed the Tournament MVP title.
“I’m very proud of how this group stuck together and came back with a goal of getting back to the College World Series again,” said Nate Hiestand, Athletics Director. “This is the first time as a program that we have qualified back-to-back years, and I believe this group is playing their best baseball right now.”
The Cyclones placed fifth in the 2021 World Series. The team finished the 2022 season 24-11 overall and 11-5 in conference.
