How can students find you or get a hold of you?

Everyone can stop by the library building, or visit our website: https://www.sctcc.edu/library. Or you can email us at library@sctcc.edu any time.

Who can students expect to help them when they contact your department?

We have several people who might help students!

There are student workers at our desk, who can help you reserve a study room or to start using a computer in the library.

We have our Library Technician, who is working on making our collection and services more easily available to students and faculty.

And we have Mary, our Librarian, who is building the collection, working on instruction, developing programs, and working on strategies to connect our information with everyone in the community.

What does your department do to help students?

Our purpose as a library is to serve the information needs of our community: students, staff, and faculty.

We provide scholarly academic material, and interesting fiction. We can help you to find material you need to write papers, to learn about different careers, to find out the latest YouTube sensation. We have instruction on doing good citations, on searching material online and in library databases. We can help you to find exactly the right book, article, or website for your needs.

What services does your department offer to students?

Libraries are known for providing books, and of course we have those for you!

We also have private study rooms. We have a small computer lab. We have the forum area, where you can relax and enjoy the views outside. A YouTube channel to help you find and use the best information. We can help you to share that information, in assignments, papers, test prep, and anything else. And we have regular programming for you, to help connect you to our resources and to provide some community building.

We want to help everyone to feel connected to the school, whether you are in person or online this semester. We are here for you!

Do you have any signature events throughout the year that students should know about?

We will be hosting monthly Zoom book chats. And every Wednesday we host Study Hall in the Library. Come to Mary’s office to register each week, set your own study goal, get a few treats, and enjoy some focused study time! (Yes, there will be another pizza party at the end of the semester for participants. Join us!) Subscribe to our Twitter account, at @SctccL, to keep up on news, happy thoughts, and all sorts of information.

What are some frequently asked questions you get from students? (Along with answer)

Q: Can I check out ANY of those books???

A: Yes! And, here are a couple more you might like too!!!!

Q: Can you help me to understand how to search the databases????

A: Yes! Set up an individual Zoom, or one with you and a few friends, and Mary will walk through your specific assignment with you! Here is a handout to help you get started. And here is our YouTube playlist with information on searching and citing the best materials.

What is one tip you can give students related to your department?

We have so many great things for YOU specifically – stop by! Almost certainly we have a few things you never thought of being in a library, or from a librarian. We are here to supply information in all kinds of formats for all kinds of different situations. You are never bothering us, you are never interfering with our work – we are here to help everyone to find the information and material they need.

Come visit us! Be sure you wear a mask, and zap your hands with the sanitizer we provide! And visit us online any time!
