Dental Hygiene instructor Kami Burgess was honored at the Minnesota State Board of Trustees annual Awards for Excellence held on Wednesday, April 22.
Burgess was nominated as SCTCC’s 2026 Outstanding Educator, which is an acknowledgment of consistent, superior commitment to student learning and ongoing pursuit of excellence.
Not only is she an instructor at SCTCC, Burgess is President-elect of the Minnesota Dental Hygiene Association and Minnesota Dental Hygiene Educators Association chair. She yearly goes on a mission trip to the Caribbean to provide dental health education and procedures to those who don't have access to such care. Current and past students have accompanied Burgess during these trips, allowing for hands-on experiences far beyond the classroom.
By providing opportunities for students in many ways such as interactive classroom experiences, clinical rotations, or global service, Burgess embraces the mission and vision at SCTCC.
