On Thursday, Nov. 5, SCTCC and SCSU folks gathered to celebrate the opening of the SCSU Transfer Hub location at SCTCC.
“This is not the only thing we have to do,” mentioned SCSU President Gregory Tomso during his remarks. “This is the first baby step. We need to continue to develop our programs, our expertise, our missions. We need to keep those pathways and doorways open.”
SCSU has had a presence at SCTCC to assist with transfer questions for close to ten years, but with the number of students who transfer to SCSU after graduating, it made sense to grow the relationship and have a more permanent presence on the SCTCC campus. There are 40 different documented pathways from SCTCC to SCSU, including several Transfer Pathway degrees at SCTCC like Spanish, Psychology, and Biology. Other programs also have transfer agreements; for example, Land Surveying/Civil Engineering has had an agreement for many years for students to start at SCTCC and transfer their classes easily to finish up a bachelor’s degree in Land Surveying and Mapping Science.
Nia Williams is an SCTCC graduate who is currently working on her bachelor’s degree at SCSU. “I had a team at SCTCC rooting for me, and I had a team at SCSU welcoming me. My AA degree was accepted and granted me junior standing for the start of my academic career at St. Cloud State.”
For students like Williams, the new space and increased staffing will provide more consistent options to chat with representatives about transferring. Along with their SCTCC advisors, students will be able to create a plan for their future at SCSU.
