The SCTCC student club Active Minds walked with more than 200 others in the Out of the Darkness walk on Sept. 28 that started at Lake George in St. Cloud. The SCTCC club members raised more than $800 for the cause.
This walk, sponsored by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, is held in cities across the country to give people hope and courage and a platform to change approaches to mental health. The foundation aims to reduce suicides by 20% by 2025. With the money just our students raised for the cause, they’re a bit closer to that goal!
Active Minds aims at reducing stigma surrounding mental health, increasing awareness about issues such as suicide among college students, and overall improving and changing the conversation. The club meets every other Monday at 1 p.m. in 1-177. The next meeting is Oct. 7. If you have any questions or want to join, you can contact Katey Leverson.
