Cyclones Claim Region Title

This weekend the Cyclones hosted the Region Tournament as the #1 seed in conference play. Friday the Cyclones faced M-State Fergus Falls and defeated the Spartans 3-0; 25-17, 25-23, 25-17. 

Ridgewater was the next opponent on Saturday and the Cyclones battled a 5 set win over the Warriors; 25-21, 22-25, 25-12, 23-25, 15-8.  The Cyclones go on to the NJCAA National Tournament in Rochester, MN on November 9-10. 

 

Region All-Tournament Team for the Cyclones include Kalli Mathiasen, sophomore setter from St Cloud Apollo, who ran the offense with 88 set assists, 3 service aces and 24 digs, and Kyra Harvey, sophomore outside hitter from Sauk Rapids, who scored 21 kills.  Kalie Jergens, sophomore outside hitter from Becker, earned Region Tournament MVP with a total of 43 kills, 5.38 per set. Coach Heidi Smith earned Region Coach of the Year.

On Tuesday, NJCAA National Tournament information including participating teams and ticket information, as well as the MCAC All-State Team, will be available at www.mcacsports.org. The Cyclones will enjoy the shortest commute of any of the participating eight teams at the National Championships, as the event is held in Rochester, MN, on November 10-12, hosted by RCTC and the Rochester Amateur Sports Commission.
