Policies & Procedures

Practices and all rounds during competition are planned for Mondays and Thursdays. These dates are tentative and subject to final approval from the range to ensure availability.

All members must adhere to the universally recognized principles of firearm safety:

  • Treat every firearm as if it is loaded.
  • Always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction.
  • Keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.
  • Keep actions open and firearms unloaded when not on the shooting line.
  • Handle firearms only in designated safe areas.

Firearms are not allowed inside any SCTCC building under any circumstances. Team members may store firearms in their vehicles only if they are:

  • Unloaded
  • Secured in a proper firearm case
  • Stored with ammunition stowed separately
  • Kept out of sight

All storage and transportation must follow Minnesota state law.

Currently, shooters are responsible for the cost of their ammunition ($160.00) and individual rounds ($10.00 per round). We typically shoot a minimum of 12 rounds per season.

The Club will be conducting fundraising efforts to help offset these expenses. All members are expected to participate in fundraising activities to support and maintain club operations.

Coaches will coordinate and place ammunition orders for all shooters. If you prefer to use your own ammunition, you may do so provided:

  • It is range‑approved ammunition.
  • Personal ammunition must be inspected and approved by a coach or range officer.
  • Firearms must be clean, functional, and safe to operate.

All shooters must wear:

  • Safety glasses (ANSI‑rated recommended)
  • Hearing protection (plugs or muffs that meet range requirements)

If any member needs assistance obtaining proper eye or ear protection, they must contact the Coach for support.

  • Alcohol, cannabis, or impairing substances are strictly prohibited before or during any club activity.
  • Members must follow all directions from coaches and range officers promptly and respectfully.
  • Horseplay or unsafe behaviour will not be tolerated.

Shooting may be suspended for lightning, extreme weather, or any unsafe condition. Members should prepare for Minnesota seasonal conditions and dress appropriately.

The safety of all students, staff, faculty, and team members is the top priority. Any violation of safety protocols will result in corrective action, which may include:

  • Removal from practice or competition
  • Review under SCTCC student conduct policies
  • Possible state law consequences depending on severity

All members are expected to uphold safety standards on and off the range, representing SCTCC with professionalism and responsibility.

By registering for the team and participating in the SCTCC Clay Target League Club, each member agrees to:

  • Follow all safety rules and policies listed above
  • Adhere to SCTCC rules and Minnesota laws
  • Use and store firearms responsibly
  • Maintain required protective equipment
  • Respect the authority of coaches, staff, and range officers
  • Always conduct themselves in a safe and professional manner
