Advanced Manufacturing Center

The Advanced Manufacturing Training Lab at SCTCC, which opened in September 2023, is equipped with cutting-edge technology, benefits SCTCC programs and bolsters job opportunities in the St. Cloud region.

Grand opening of the Advanced Manufacturing Lab

The Advanced Manufacturing Training Lab at SCTCC expands and renovates current space, installs state-of-the-art equipment, and creates a learning environment for students that will mirror their experience while working in industry. The programs that benefit from the lab include: CNC and Advanced Machining; Computer-Aided Design Manufacturing; Computer-Aided Mechanical Design; Robotics & Industrial Controls; and Welding/Fabrication.

In addition to improved facilities for SCTCC programs, the lab expands training opportunities for those currently in the workforce, which supports the creation and retention of high-quality, in-demand jobs throughout the St. Cloud region, particularly for unemployed and underemployed individuals.

Cutting-Edge Technology

3D metal printer

Metal 3D Printer

A metal 3D printer creates metal parts directly from a digital design by building them layer by layer. Metal additive manufacturing reduces material waste and shortens production timelines. It allows companies to create parts that may be difficult to produce using traditional manufacturing methods, like machining. This printer can print different types of metal, including 17-4 Stainless Steel.

Geared Head Lathe

Geared Head Lathe

A geared head lathe shapes material by spinning it while a cutting tool removes material to create a finished part. It is commonly used to make round or cylindrical components with a high degree of accuracy. The machine’s built in gear system provides a range of speeds and added cutting power, making it well-suited for machining larger workpieces and tougher materials.

Water Jet Cutter

Waterjet Cutter

A waterjet cutter uses an extremely powerful stream of water pressurized to 55,000 PSI, or nearly 4,000 times the pressure in a typical car tire. Combined with abrasive particles such as garnet, the water can cut through materials including metal, plastic, glass, stone, and composites. The process is highly precise and produces very little heat, making it ideal for materials that may be damaged by traditional cutting methods.

Flexible Manufacturing System Training Cells

SMC FMS-200 SE Industry 4.0 System (Flexible Manufacturing System Training Cells)

This flexible manufacturing system demonstrates how modern factories use automation, robotics, sensors, and fluid power to produce products efficiently. Multiple pieces of equipment work together as a connected system in an assembly line process, allowing materials to move through the manufacturing process automatically.
