The growing demand to transport products quickly and safely has created an increase in the need for skilled technicians.
SCTCC's Diesel Technician program is one of four colleges in the state to offer training for maintenance, repair, and diagnostics on medium and heavy-duty trucks and trailers. Students work on customer trucks and trailers in one of the newest Diesel Tech facilities in the state. SCTCC's close proximity to the largest trucking fleet in Minnesota provides many opportunities for learning, training, and careers.
Students will learn skills to manage truck computers, diesel engines, electrical systems, suspension, air-brakes, power train, and emissions. There are also opportunities to learn welding and work with compressed natural gas (CNG) and alternative fuel systems. SCTCC students also have the opportunity to complete the Department of Transportation Vehicle Inspector Certification.

At SCTCC, students in our Medium and Heavy Truck Technician degree are taught to demonstrate entry level skills and technical competency to become a diesel mechanic. We equip our students with the skills necessary to succeed in the workforce.
Graduates from our program can demonstrate knowledge of hazardous materials in the workplace and they understand the impact they have on human health and the global environment. Students in our Medium and Heavy Truck Technician degree can even demonstrate proper use of lab facility and maintenance of repair and diagnostic equipment.
After graduation, our students can interpret and utilize manufacturer's data to analyze problems and to make repair decisions as a diesel mechanic. With all the taught skills from SCTCC classrooms, students are certain to find success in their future careers.

Students can utilize their skills to work in component rebuilding, diagnostics, and preventative maintenance.
At SCTCC, we even offer an AAS degree and students who graduate with that honor can have career opportunities as diesel mechanics, shop supervisors, or even as dealer and factory representatives.
A day in the life of an SCTCC Medium and Heavy Truck Technician consists of working as a shop supervisor for companies like Ziegler Cat and utilizing skills taught in our classrooms.
