Liberal Arts & Sciences, Transfer Pathways, Undecided, & Seeking Admission to Health Majors Students
- Students are invited to complete online eOrientation via letter and email from the Admissions Office.
- Students must be accepted to SCTCC before completing eOrientation.
- The orientation video is an overview of important information for being a successful college student and takes approximately 15 minutes to complete.
- After completion of eOrientation, students schedule their Advising & Registration meeting.
- These sessions are offered in-person or Zoom sessions. Check-in at Academic Advising Center, Room 1-401.
- During this meeting we will discuss academic goals, develop your academic plan, review the Student Guidebook and register for classes.
- This appointment usually lasts 45 min to 1 hour.

Steps to take when you're deciding on a major:
- Complete Focus2 Assessment for Career Exploration
- Schedule an appointment with the Career Services staff. This can be done before or after your meeting with an academic advisor.
- Take the 1-credit Career Exploration course: CSSC 1300
- Attend a tour day or Open House to learn more about programs and degrees offered at SCTCC.
The Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MNTC) is designed to transfer to any Minnesota State college or university as general education courses.
To complete your AA degree so you can transfer to earn your bachelor’s degree, you’ll need to follow some criteria:
- Complete 40 credits and 10 goals areas of MNTC (more info on goal areas is in the AA degree planner you discuss with your advisor)
- 2 credits from the wellness requirement
- 18 elective credits (these can be MNTC courses OR technical courses)
- Complete a total of 60 credits

Skilled Trades & Industry and Business, IT and Education Programs
- Students are invited to complete online eOrientation via letter and email from the Admissions Office.
- Students must be accepted to SCTCC before completing eOrientation.
- The orientation video is an overview of important information for being a successful college student and takes approximately 15 minutes to complete.
- At the end of eOrientation students select their Program Registration Session date.
- Attend the Program Registration date you signed up for, check-in in Main Lobby Northway Door 1.
- Advising staff will review Student Guidebook with students and assist with course registration.
- Limit 15 students per session and is approximately 1.5 hours
- Before leaving, students will sign up for required faculty-led Program Orientation Sessions (usually held in June)
- Attend the instructor-led overview you signed up; learn program requirements and expectations
- Review tools/laptop/materials (as applicable)
- Tour of area and meet classmates beginning the same program
- Review of students schedules/DAR
- Length of sessions will vary
All Business and IT Programs except Business Management:
Laptops are required for the following programs:
- Health Data Specialist
- Computer Programming
- Network Administration
Specifications for your laptop will be available when you meet with your advisor.
Culinary Arts
- You will receive specific information on required utensils for the Culinary Program when you meet with your advisor.
- You will have a faculty advisor from your major.
- You will be required to meet with your advisor once each semester in order to get your access code for registration.
Laptops are required for the following programs:
- Land Surveying
- Architectural Construction
- Mechanical Design
Most Trades & Industry programs require uniforms which can be purchased at the BookStore.
Tools are required for many programs, ranging from a couple of hundred dollars to more than $3,500. You will receive a tool list when you meet with your advisor.
Auto Services students MUST have a clean driving record and be able to operate a manual transmission vehicle.
Energy and Welding have Fall and Spring semester starts. All other programs begin Fall semester only. If you would like to take classes the spring semester before a start, there may be general education or general studies courses to choose from.
Electrical Construction technology students are highly encouraged to join the MESA (MN Electrical Student Association) for a $20 fee. The cost is more than recovered in perks.
You will have a faculty advisor from your major. You will be required to meet with your advisor once each semester in order to get your access code for registration.
Post-Secondary Enrollment Option (PSEO)
- Students seeking enrolling in PSEO must connect with HS Guidance Counselor about graduation requirements
- Completion of Notice of Student Registration (NOSR) form
- Submission of High School Transcripts
- Students are invited to complete online eOrientation via letter and email from the Admissions Office.
- Students must be accepted to SCTCC before completing eOrientation.
- The orientation video is an overview of important information for being a successful college student and takes approximately 15 minutes to complete.
- After completion of eOrientation students schedule their Advising & Registration meeting with a PSEO advisor.
- These sessions are offered in-person or Zoom sessions. Check-in at Academic Advising Center, Room 1-401.
- During this meeting we will discuss your NOSR form, academic goals, develop your academic plan, review the Student Guidebook and register for classes.
- This appointment usually lasts 45 min to 1 hour.
Health Sciences and Nursing Programs
- Students seeking admissions to competitive health programs must be accepted to SCTCC, meet the minimum program requirements and must apply during open application period.
- Schedule an appointment with an advisor to learn more about health majors at SCTCC.
- Students accepted into Health Programs receive specific program requirements, this may include Immunizations, CPR certification and Criminal background study.
- Attend mandatory session once accepted to the Health Major. Meetings are led by faculty advisors.
- This mandatory session includes review of Program Handbook, overview of program and expectations, review materials (as applicable), course registration and tour of program area.
- Students meet others also beginning program, length of session vary.
Acceptance
You will need to be accepted to one of the Pre-Health majors:
- Pre-Cardiovascular Technology
- Pre-Dental Assistant
- Pre-Dental Hygienist
- Pre-Paramedicine
- Pre-Practical Nursing
- Pre-A.D.N. (must be L.P.N.)
- Pre-Sonography
- Pre-Surgical Technology
You are NOT directly accepted into their intended major. Each health/nursing program offers a pre-program planner which can be found at your interested program website under "Quick Links".
Pre-Program and Degree Major
In addition to the Pre-Health major, students are also accepted to either*:
- Associate in Arts (AA) degree OR
- Health Science Broad Field (HSBF) AS degree
Students are NOT required to earn either of these degrees to apply to their intended health or nursing program.
*This additional degree is to meet Federal Financial Aid regulations
Program Math Requirement
- Each program has specific math requirements
- Begin taking pre-requisite courses if necessary
- Because there are different options, talk to an advisor about course selection.
