The facility expanded dramatically from 1971 to 1975 to meet the eventual increased capacity of 1,400 students and 33 programs. Several new wings were added to the facility at that time.
Between 1975 and 1983, two more wings were added, bringing the college to its current configuration which accommodated 3,558 students in continuous programs and almost 10,000 students in extension programs during the 1993-1994 school year.
The Beginning of Water and Waste Water Technology
Water and Waste Water Technology was a new course that was introduced in 1971 into the Vocational School curriculum.
1972
The first mention of the Dental Assistant program in the yearbook,
"Dental Assisting has become one of the most progressive branches of medicine today. The 42 week program includes intensive class room preparation as well as 14 weeks of actual in-office training. Upon completion of the course, the student is eligible to take both national Certification examination and the Minnesota State Registration examination for Dental Assisting."
The school's name was changed in 1973 to St. Cloud Area Vocational Technical Institute.
Pioneering Non-Traditional Technical Training
"Men and women are increasingly utilizing expanding options for non-traditional technical and industrial training at the St. Cloud Area Vocational-Technical Institute."

The Tutor Resource Center, now known as The Mary Stangler Center for Academic Success (CAS), opens in September 1974, to accommodate students with physical, academic, and economical special needs.

More Name Changes
In 1988, St. Cloud Area Vocational Technical Institute underwent another name change, becoming St. Cloud Technical Institute for a period of two years. Subsequently, in 1990, the institution's name experienced another transformation, adopting the title of St. Cloud Technical College, a name it retained for nearly two decades.
First-Ever Job Fair
The College’s first Job Fair was held in 1988. This is one of the largest and longest-running fairs of its kind in Central Minnesota.
