"The name change, which takes effect immediately, complements the board’s decision in November to expand the mission of the college to that of a comprehensive technical and community college.
The new mission will enable the college to offer the first two years of a liberal arts degree so students can transfer to a four-year institution, such as St. Cloud State University, and continue its various technical and career programs."
Timeline Tidbits
Health Sciences Building Opens in 2011
The college's Health Science building opened in August 2011 for almost 1,000 students enrolled in or preparing to major in 6 health science majors offered at the time. The 53,000-square-foot building was the former Health Partners clinic which was remodeled to fit the needs of people seeking jobs in a dental practice, nursing, paramedicine, sonography, hospitals and clinics.
Dedication to Excellence: The Mary Stangler Center for Academic Success
For more than 37 years, Mary Stangler was a devoted math teacher and the face of the AACE, the Academic Achievement Center of Excellence on campus. Mary helped start the Tutoring Resource Center in 1974 and tutored until she switched back to teaching full-time in 2010. After announcing her retirement in 2010, she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer and passed away in May 2011. On Sept. 16, 2011, a dedication and renaming ceremony was held in her honor to rename SCTCC's tutoring center to The Mary Stangler Center for Academic Success.
Academic Advising Center Opens
Until 2013, students were advised by faculty. After becoming comprehensive in 2010, AA students needed centralized advising. The Academic Advising Center opened in 2013 in response to that need.
The new Library facilities opened after the College purchased the building from CentraCare.
New Cyclones Logo Unveiled
The college transitioned to a new logo in 2017.
"The logo exudes movement, personality, and life. The logo is the essence of the student athletes at SCTCC and their competitive spirit."
New BookStore, Common Grounds Opens
The BookStore was remodeled to include space for clothing, snacks, and supplies along with textbooks. Next door, the Common Grounds coffee shop and student lounge opened.
Beyond the Yellow Ribbon
The College becomes a Beyond the Yellow Ribbon company to sustain support for military veterans, service members, and their families.
Wellness Resource Services
As a result of a student-led campaign, the College established Wellness Resource Services on campus, including non-academic support and mental health services.
CNA Training Site
The College was one of 16 state partners to provide emergency certified nursing assistant training for members of the National Guard during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Multicultural Center Opens
The new Multicultural Center opened in 2021 to provide space on campus for conversations, connections, and learning.
Cyclones Cupboard Opens
After a 2019 survey found nearly half of students were struggling with food insecurity, the Cyclones Cupboard opened.
Advanced Manufacturing Center
With funding from a federal EDA grant and matching funds from the College, community members celebrated the groundbreaking of the Advanced Manufacturing Training Lab, which included a renovation and expansion of almost 8,000 square feet of additional space for advanced manufacturing programs took place on October 5, 2022. New technology was also added to the lab and included rooftop solar panels and a metal 3D printer. With the updated space and equipment, student capacity for these programs was doubled. The lab will expand and renovate current space, install state-of-the-art equipment, and create a learning environment for students that will mirror their experience while working in industry.
After a year of construction and renovation, the Advanced Manufacturing Center celebrated its grand opening in September 2023.
