Why Choose This Program
Often, the first medical professionals on the scene of an emergency are Emergency Medical Technicians, or EMTs. Much more than mere “ambulance drivers," EMTs respond to all types of emergency calls and perform a wide variety of pre-hospital medical care. They are part of the Emergency Medical System (EMS) which is much broader field that includes all aspects of emergency medical care, from the scene of an emergency to the hospital. EMT's work alongside Paramedics and other EMS agencies in the delivery of basic life support procedures and emergency pre-hospital care.
St Cloud Technical & Community College offers students entry-level emergency response training with its EMT-Basic (EMT-B) program. EMT-Bs do not provide definitive medical care on the scene but rather focus on rapid in-field treatment and patient transport to medical facilities.
Successful completion of the one semester long training course qualifies you for MN state and National Registry EMT-B certification as sanctioned by the MN Emergency Medical Service Regulatory Board.
Placement rate from self-reported data of graduates available for work in field of study up to one year post graduation. Wage data is from Minnesota Dept. of Employment and Economic Development (DEED). Projected Minnesota Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics job openings is from O*Net, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor.
