Accessibility Services’ Interpreter Policy and Procedure follows a student self-advocacy model to support student self-efficacy and responsibility of their accommodations. The Interpreter Accommodation approves students with a documented disability for American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting. SCTCC interpreters are available for classes, meetings with staff or instructors, tutoring services, examinations, campus events/programs/activities, etc.

Sign Language Interpreter Request Form

  • Interpreters are provided by SCTCC for any course/college related service, program, or activity.
  • It is the responsibility of the student to complete their Interpreter Request Form at least 5 business days before the date the interpreter is needed.
  • We will do our best to accommodate, however, interpreters are not guaranteed for events if the form is filled out later than 5 business days in advance.
  • For classes: the “Recurring Interpreter Request” form will only need to be filled out one time per class for the semester.
  • For events/meetings/other campus services: the “Single Event Interpreter Request” form must be filled out for each event/meeting/or campus service the student would like to attend
  • If you are not going to attend class, or if you are going to be late to class, contact your interpreter OR the interpreter coordinator as soon as possible. If you do not inform the interpreter OR the interpreting coordinator that you will be late or miss class, they will only stay for the first 10 mins of class.
  • At any time during class if there is a work time, you are allowed to waive your right for interpreting and cut your interpreter for the hour. However, once you waive your interpreter, you are no longer guaranteed an interpreter for that class period that day.
  • If you don’t have an interpreter present at your class, please wait 10 minutes, and then contact the interpreting coordinator or Accessibility Services. We recommend you attend class while we search for a substitute interpreter. If you choose not to return to class, please let us know.
  • Interpreters are a confidential source, all information obtained while interpreting will be kept confidential, with the notable exception of if the student is planning on harming themselves, someone else, or SCTCC property.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the SCTCC Accessibility Services Interpreter Policy, please contact Accessibility Services (acc@sctcc.edu).
